Central Park is a busy place, as it includes a lake that rents pedal boats, a swimming pool (free!), a rose garden, tennis courts (including an exhibition court with grandstand seating), baseball diamonds, a fenced dog park, playgrounds, a picnic pavilion with four central fireplaces complete with cooking grates, a fitness trail, a music venue and mountain biking trails. Phew! Needless to say I was a bit worried about launching discs in the middle of all this action. My concerns were overblown. The course designers did an amazing job of tucking the course into the park in places where with a little caution you can safely and enjoyably play 18 holes. Best part is, when you are done you can go for a swim and then have a cook out.
The course is challenging and fun. The toughest hole for me is very long long hole along a curving walking path through dense woods that requires serious accuracy if you want to stay out of the trees. Other holes open up to let you exercise your power drives. Elevation changes and water crossings keep you thinking. My favorite hole starts a the top of a hill and includes a sharp dog leg to the right followed with a open fairway along the lake but for a nasty tree screen before you get to work your way back up hill to the goal.
Please use extra caution when you play here. Consider walking ahead when you play blind holes to make sure the coast is clear. Obviously, the last thing we want is someone getting hurt.
Joralemon Park is also in the area and is an amazing and well established course, so I was hesitant to give a day to this new course, fearing it would be less fun. Not a chance. I will be playing here often.
