Northampton State Hospital Disc Golf Course is a great course for both beginners and long-time players. It has a good mix of holes including 1-2 short (<220 ft) and 2-3 longer ones (420+ ft), with the rest being roughly between 250-350 ft. There are small hand-made signs and decent-looking rubber tees for each hole. Navigation for the course isn't too difficult, and the maintainers are slowly starting to make pathways to each tee. The only problem may come after hole 5, but just walk up the hill and to the left, and you will find the tee for hole 6 (throw across the path). The course is built throughout a dog walking/cross country park, but this doesn't really come into play except for holes 1, 6, and 14.
The course plays relatively even for left and right-handed players. The first 8 holes are mostly wooded, it then opens up for 3 holes that really let you air it out. The next 7 holes are an even mix of wooded/open, including the LONG #13 (Par 4). There are also longer alternate pins for 8, 11, and (sometimes) 17. A great place to play and there usually isn't too much traffic. They hold cross country meets in the Fall/Spring on Tuesdays around 5pm, so keep that in mind. |
