Hey America, how's that winter storm treating you? Local schools here in Fort Worth have been closed since Tuesday due to very icy roads...and as I write this, we're getting blanketed with big, fluffy flakes of snow...headed toward 5 inches since yesterday. It's cold!!! Especially for a Southerner!
Ok, today's Minute Clinic is about Falling Putts. You know who you are (most of the time) and you know what you do! We want to help! First off, for those that don't know or didn't realize, a falling putt is when you do NOT demonstrate balance inside the putting the circle. The putting circle is 10 meters or 32 feet 10 inches. Inside this circle, you MUST fully demonstrate balance behind your lie when you putt. That means after you release the putter, no part of your body can land in front of your lie (or mini-marker) period. It's not good enough to simply tap your foot down behind your lie as your momentum takes you toward the basket. Same thing if you happen to be kneeling when you putt...if you land in push-up position, you've fallen on the putt.
What happens if I "fall" when I putt?
First, your card will issue a warning and you must re-putt. Anything after that counts as a penalty stroke so it can really add up if you have built in this bad habit to your game.
Watch the video to for a few quick tips on how to eliminate falling putts from your disc golf game!
Happy Friday everyone! Hope your week didn't drag on like mine did. I need some serious R&R this weekend...including some time out on the course. Disc Golf is often the release I need from a tough day/week/whatever.
Our next installment of the Friday Minute Clinic focuses on backpack straps for your bag, how they can make things easier out on the course, as well as a demonstration of how to attach the straps to your bag.
TGIF! Hope you disc golf crazies are having a great week. I know I'm looking forward to the weekend. Wallace and I have made a commitment to each other to practice our putting everyday so we're ready for the SADC Ice Bowl coming up in a month. I'm looking forward to it, it's byop (bring your own partner) so the Stanley twins are bringing each other.
Disc Golf Station Friday Minute Clinic:
Check out the video for a nifty little idea to help you practice your putting for disc golf.
Hope you liked it. It's a great time saver, a lot more fun than putting at a basket, and a nice break from the routine of just you and the basket.
Happy Thanksgiving disc golfers! It is very exciting to announce the 2 winners of our $100 Gift Certificate Raffle. Tom F. from Iowa and John M. from Illinois are the lucky winners of $100 Gift Certificates to www.DiscGolfStation.com. Thanks to all those that participated.
And speaking of thanks...Disc Golf Station wants to thank all of our customers for their business and continued support. We could not exist without you. That's why everything we do is with the customer in mind, because you are really important to us...really!
Because you are important to us, we keep bringing you great deals to save you money! For 4 days (November 25 through November 29), we are going to give you a $5 Gift Certificate for orders over $35. THAT is an excellent deal. --------------------------------------------------------
In case you missed it, here is the wrap-up video from the Oh Say Can UC tourney held at Universal City Park in Universal City, Texas.
Hope all is well with you and yours this holiday season. Have a great Thanksgiving and go play some disc golf with the family to work off some of those calories!
Hey you disc golf crazies. Just wanted to let you know we restocked our Fade Gear Bags. Which one is right for you?
If you're on a budget or just don't want to carry two-dozen discs around, try the Fade Gear Lite Disc Golf Bag. For your medium sized bag, look no further than the Crunch Box. This bag holds a few more than the Lite Bag, has a few more amenities, and is backpack strap ready. If you are playing tournaments, or just like to haul all your best and brightest around, get your hands on a Fade Gear Tourney Bag. Personally, I used the Fade Tourney Bag for all rounds. I like to have everything I need to play the game and be able to stuff a bunch of other junk in my bag too. And of course it's backpack strap ready.
And speaking of straps:
The good guys over at Fade Gear developed a backpack strap system that also has a WeatherGuard. There is a built in a rainfly that can be pulled down to cover your bag from the weather. It even covers the bottom of your bag so that when you set it down on the ground, it doesn't come back soggy. Sweet!
If you want Freakin' Awesome Disc Equipment, then you need to check FADE Gear out now!
The 2010 Bryan McClain Open was a huge success. Great weather and people (almost 80 competitors) made the tough McClain course a perfect way to spend a Saturday in San Antonio. With temperatures mostly in the 70s and topping out in the low 80s, you couldn't ask for more, especially when compared to the mudfest from last year's BMO.
Congrats to Lisle Updike for edging out Phil Morgan in the Open Men's and to Danielle Vargas for another victory in the Open Women's Division. Lisle posted two 1000+ rated rounds to finish at 6 under par on a challenging, heavily wooded course.
Jerry Perez took the Masters Division win over Anthony Pugh while Ernie Hernandez took a one-stroke victory over Wayne Dillen in the Advanced Masters Division. Kristina Gold, Terri Ordner, and Mary Castillo notched wins in the Advanced, Intermediate, and Rec. Women's Divisions respectively.
The Advanced Men's Competition saw an exciting playoff win by Scott Hougland over Brandon Tull. Both finished the 36-hole tourney in an impressive 106 strokes (2 under par). Scott also posted the hot round of the 2010 BMO in the first round with a 49, unofficially a 1024 rated round. Boo-yah!
Kris Hartley won the Intermediate Men's Division decisively over Raul Originales whereas Dave Wimer won a closer contest over James Teninty in Rec. Mens.
FYI, we have added 200+ Discraft Discs to our inventory over the last few days. They are ripe for the pickin so have it!
Also, this is an open invitation to request discs that we don't have. If there is a disc/color/weight/plastic type that we don't currently have, send us an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we will do our best to get it here as fast as possible. We exist to serve you and get you the discs and equipment you need and want so you can get back to the course and the fun...hopefully fun...remember to have fun while you're stressing over how to get better! A lesson I need to learn myself!
Get signed up for the 2010 Bryan McClain Open at McClain Park in San Antonio, a part of the 2010 Alamo Disc Series sponsored by www.DiscGolfStation.com. The "BMO" is a fun-filled, one-day "C" Tier disc golf tournament that promises strong competition from the locals and some out of towners too. The course is undergoing improvements thanks to the good folks in the San Antonio Disc Club and the local disc golf community. These guys have put in many hours to McClain to make it as good as possible for the tourney.
Disc Golf Station will be at the BMO with discs and equipment available for purchase. I haven't played more than 2 rounds in a week in months thanks to the little man that now lives at my house but I plan on doing well myself in the Intermediate division. I'm hoping the heavily wooded fairways will keep everyone else in check while I play smart and play for 3s. There are only a few birdie runs (from the concrete tees) in my opinion, I will go after those but everything else is par golf/avoid the bogey kind of golf.
Get signed up over at www.titledisc.com. Players packs (including a Stash-Mini from Disc Golf Station for the first 50 people) will be available only for pre-registered players. Can't wait to see all the San Antonio peeps again!
We got an order from Discraft today and have uploaded many more discs to our inventory, notably the Z Nuke. The Discraft Nuke is a must-have, very very fast driver. If you haven't thrown it, you will be amazed at the speed and extra distance you will get.
On to more important things than disc golf. On the ninth anniversary of the 9-11 attacks on the United States, I think it's important to take a moment to remember those that died that day, the heroes that participated in the rescue efforts, and the men and women that have since sacrificed their lives to protect our country (and others) from future attacks.
Everytime I see footage of the towers falling or the firemen running through streets clogged with ash and debris, I have to remind myself that it actually happened. It doesn't seem real. Surely, this didn't happen. There's no way a street in the United States could be so fraught with peril and urgency. But it did happen. And we'll never be the same. I can't even come close to imagining the suffering experienced that day or since. My heart goes out to the families affected by the events of September 11th, 2001.
It's been called the "Pearl Harbor" of our day. And maybe it is. It's a day that lives in infamy and will continue to give us pause each year. To remember that day and to hope for a better future. Here's to the future and to the memory of our brothers and sisters that have gone before us.

Man what a great title. If you’re not sure whether to join the PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association) or not, you need to read my short but oh so sweet article at Disc Golf Station, entitled How To: Become a PDGA Member.
I’ll first tell the ambivalent crowd why and show the eager beavers how. Signing up takes less than 5 minutes, reading the full article goes even faster.
The release of the Memorial Nuke was a huge success. Disc golfers everywhere soon were chomping at the bit to get their hands on First Run (and general run) Discraft Nukes in ESP plastic. Now, Discraft is at it again, with the release of the Elite-Z Nuke forthcoming in early July. The new First Run Nukes will start making their way from Michigan to us (Texas) on July 7th. We will have them a few days later.
You can reserve your Z Nuke right now! We will ship them out as soon as they come in. We will call you to let you choose weight/color options. Remember, we ship EVERYTHING FREE. Don’t pay for shipping, seriously! The First Runs will go fast, so order now!
Today I went out to the Haslet Community Park Disc Golf Course in Haslet, Texas. It’s a neat little 9 hole course that is mostly open and short with a few obstacles. Some hate courses like this but I love them for the great practice they provide. I can work on my approach and mid-range game, which is where I usually struggle. Ok, on to the good stuff.
I aced Hole 2 with my 173g Discraft Elite-Z Flick on a sharp hyzer line through the gap between the trees. This is probably the most technical hole on the course (if such a thing exists at Haslet) with OB creek to the left if you overshoot. It’s a harder-than-it-looks 200 footer with more obstacles than any other hole on the course. This was one of those shots that you know has a chance as soon as it leaves your hand. The beauty of those few seconds stays with you for a while. I know I’m even more excited about disc golf now than I used to be. Bought myself a Mountain Dew on the way home to celebrate!
This is what a Mountain Dew looks like.
If you have a recent ace story, let’s hear it!
Oh yes, big restock of Lightning Discs. Added over 100 bags and over 300 discs to our inventory.
Another rockin song by heavy metal legends Metallica is performed effortlessly. Nearby shouts for “Fade to Black! Fade to Black” erupt from one hopeful fan. Too bad sucker, time for One. Then Fuel. Then Seek and Destroy. Ya gotta hand it to him, he was persistent…”Faaade to Blaaaaack!!!” …as if shouting the word longer would get Hetfield’s attention. Well Metallica was amazing at Summer Sanitarium 2003, surviving personnel changes as well as battling egos among other business relationships, but Fade to Black didn’t make the set list this time. Good thing the band put out nearly a baker’s dozen’s worth of albums to appease us, to which mission was sufficiently accomplished.
Why all the back story? Just remembering some good times. We here at Disc Golf Station simply want to announce the arrival (if you haven’t already seen!) of the popular Fade Gear. Fade has cool designs and GREAT values. If you’re looking for a mega disc bag that can hold everything you could possibly need grab the Fade Gear Tourney Disc Golf Bag. For a lighter alternative that still functions for the competitive player go for the Fade Gear Crunch Box Disc Golf Bag. Beginners will like the Lite Bag too! If you must know the inspiration for including the Metallica anecdote, its due to the awesome limited edition Black “Birdbrain” version of the Tourney Bag.
Fade Gear Black Limited Edition Birdbrain Tourney Disc Golf Bag
Check it out. (Shopping tip: we’ve extended our Gateway X-Out promotion for a limited time longer…pick up any color of the Tourney Bag, and you’ll qualify for the free disc!)
Presenting version one of Disc Golf Station’s Disc Golf Course Locator:
Disc Golf Course Locator
Find your local courses or over 3000 courses across the country. You can easily get directions by clicking the “Get Directions” link. We have worked very hard on getting this locator off of the ground. We already have many, many upgrades in the works. This is an ongoing project. The locator will continue to be updated to get you the best possible information in the simplest, easiest way. Now for the good stuff.
Opportunity to earn Reward Points at Disc Golf Station:
We want course reviews!!! For a limited time, we are offering 5 Reward Points per review that we approve. Here’s how it works:
Find a course you have played
Click on “Review this course”
Write an original review of this course. (think of info that would be helpful to someone that hasn’t played that course)
We will approve your review and add 5 Reward Points to your account with us under the following conditions:
Your review must be original. If you copy from another site or any copyrighted material, we will not approve and you won’t get points for any review. We will assume you have copied all other reviews.
Your review must be more than a few words to get Reward Points. Only writing “This course is fun” or “this course is hard” is not substantial enough to earn points, we will probably post it but we can’t give you points if your review doesn’t have any substance. Reviews can only be about 500 characters so you don’t need to write an essay, just some helpful comments about pros/cons or your notes about the course.
We reserve the right to reject any review for any reason not listed above if we feel it’s warranted.
Other thoughts: Make sure you put your name or at least email that you use to order on our site so we can give the points to the right person!
Check out what you can get with your Rewards Points at Disc Golf Station!
If you haven’t seen our selection of Gateway Disc Sports products, get your head outta the sand (or shule) and check it out! Gateway offers a full line of original and innovative discs, striving for unique molds rather than copies of existing ones. Designed with the advanced player in mind, fast, overstable drivers, low profile mids that fit in the hand like a distance driver, and some of (if not the best) putters on the market will find their way into your bag. While advanced players will love the stability, newer players alike will find discs like the Apache, Element, and Magic great choices to try.
Don’t forget our latest promotion only last for a few more days…spend $40 or more and receive a FREE Gateway X-Out disc. These discs have slight cosmetic flaws and/or misprinted stamps, but they fly just like a full price discs. Yours free with a $40 purchase!
Last Saturday, I hit my 7th ace! It was a beautiful shot with a pink, 173g Discraft Elite-Z Wasp on Hole 5 at North Park in Haltom City. Hole 5 is only 220 ft but features a soft hyzer route that has two trees guarding the last 30 feet of your flight path to the basket. You either have to zing it straight in or plan on your disc fading hard left to get around the arboles. I chose the “straight in” option. After a “go baby go” to help it go in I let out a holler and enjoyed the rest of my day because of a few special seconds of watching a golf disc fly.
Disc Golf Station now carries Gateway Discs. We are very pleased to announce it here first! Within a week, you will be able to purchase great products from Gateway including some of the best putters on the market. The discs are currently on their way from Missouri. Can’t wait!
We get to play a tournament this weekend. Looking forward to the Hill Country Throwdown. If you haven’t signed up, do it now! See you in Boerne!
First and foremost. The Discraft Nuke is here. The general release in ESP plastic has been much anticipated. The Memorial Fundraiser Nukes were a huge success and have been lighting up the fairways. Grab one quickly because these are First Runs and are sure to go fast.

Let it snow!
So Fort Worth, TX received 10 inches of snow in ONE day! Thursday Feb. 11 brought in heavy flakes for almost 24 hours straight resulting in the greatest downfall of snow in our area EVER. Here are some pictures I took this morning, Feb. 12 around my house and home course, Arcadia Park.
Snow on Hole 6 at Arcadia Park
Don’t know how you Northerners do it all winter! The snow is brutal!
Looking out of my front door.
White Creek that flows through Arcadia has never looked so beautiful!
